Benefits of DIY Styling Gel for Natural Hair
Gelatin has protein, so in addition to being a great styling tool and giving your hair hold, it also strengthens the strands.
This helps in promoting your overall hair health.
You can also use it on your ends. Apply it when wearing twists or plaits, and it will help retain length by minimizing breakage & snagging when your hair comes in contact with your clothes.
Ingredients
- ¼ spoon unflavoured gelatin
- ½ cup Hot Water
- Optional: Distilled Water
Instructions
- Mix the water and the gelatin in a bowl and stir thoroughly until properly dissolved.
- Transfer to your styling jar and then put the mixture in the fridge to sit for two to three hours. You will notice that after the recommended time, the mixture will have changed to a gel-like consistency. The gel is now ready for use.
Storage
Store the mixture in the fridge and use as and when needed. The gel has a shelf life of two weeks and you can freeze leftovers in ice cube trays for when you want to use it.
Usage
Rub a small portion between your hands and then apply it to your hair, as per your desired style.
Do not apply too much of the product, as it can weigh down your hair, as well as cause flaking. Also, if your hair is sensitive to protein, then use as you would rice water – sparingly.
NaHaZo tip
Instead of using tap or bottled water, you can use distilled water. Using distilled water is beneficial as it extends the shelf life of the gel.
*Allergens
This is not necessarily an allergen notice, however, if your hair is sensitive to protein, use this gel cautiously.
