Benefits of Flaxseed Gel
Flax seeds are loaded with Omega 3, which is an essential hair nutrient, as well as help to define curls.
It also improves hair appearance and shine, reducing the appearance of frizzy hair.
What you need
To prepare your flaxseed gel at home, you will need:-
- X1 cup of flaxseeds
- X4 cups of water
- Metal strainer /Pantyhose / Cheesecloth
Instructions
- Pour the water into a pot, add the flax seeds, and then bring the mixture to a boil.
- Once boiled, let it simmer for 15 – 20 minutes, stirring constantly. Flax seeds tend to stick to the bottom of the pot, so it is important to stir the mixture frequently, under a low/ medium heat setting.
- After the recommended time, set the mixture aside to cool and let it sit for 2 hours. It does not need to have a gel consistency at this point, but it will get thicker as it sits. NaHaZo tip: You do not need to wait for the mixture to cool and you can strain it when hot, using a metal strainer. This is an easier hack to separate the gel from the seeds.
- Alternatively, once cooled, pour the mixture into the pantyhose and squeeze it out, separating the gel from the flax seed. Repeat this process to ensure that all the gel is extracted from the mixture. NaHaZo tip: Strain the mixture over a pot, to ensure minimal mess due to the pot being wider. Once complete, you can then transfer the gel to a jar.
Storage
Store it in the fridge and do not use it past 5 – 7 days, depending on your fridge setting.
Make sure you keep an eye on the mixture and discard it if you notice discoloration or if the smell changes.
Bonus NaHaZo Tip
