DIY Hibiscus Water for Hair

Hibiscus water is a popular natural hair spray for hair care, particularly for those with afro-textured hair.

It has several benefits, including moisturizing, strengthening, and promoting hair growth. Cheap, easy to use, and quick to make – it is no wonder that it is a firm hair care favorite.

Hibiscus Benefits for Hair

  • It is an excellent hydrating mist and can be used to introduce much-needed moisture to hair.
  • It helps prevent dandruff and an itchy scalp.
  • It strengthens hair strands, stimulates the scalp to promote growth, and helps delay greying.

Recommended for

Bald patches, dry hair, and dandruff issues.

Preparation time

20 minutes

Ingredients

  • X1 tablespoon of hibiscus flower leaves
  • X1 cup of hot water
  • Strainer

Instructions

🌺 Bring the water to a boil and then add the hibiscus leaves.

🌺Let it simmer for 10 minutes, stirring it lightly.

🌺 Set aside the mixture and let it sit for at least 12 hours. (You will notice a dark red color from the nutrients leaching into the water).

🌺 Sieve the mixture, and discard the leftover leaves.

🌺 Transfer the hibiscus water to a sanitized applicator bottle.

Your hair spray is ready for use.

Storage

Store the mixture in the fridge to prolong its shelf life. It can be kept for 7 – 10 days in the fridge.

Usage

🌺 Hair rinse: Hibiscus water works well as a hydrating mist. Section your hair into 4 or more parts and spray directly onto your hair strands and scalp, before massaging into your scalp. Then put hair in twists and let it sit for 30 minutes before applying a deep conditioning treatment.

🌺 Leave-in treatment: Spritz your hair with the spray during your LOC/ LCO routine.

NaHaZo tip

Hibiscus water can be staining, so make sure that you cover your shoulders with an old t-shirt when applying it to your scalp.

If used in overnight treatment, first secure your hair firmly and/or make sure your hair is dry first before going to bed.

Pro-tip: Hibiscus water works well when used with hibiscus oil
